Iván Aceituno C. did a huge amount of work to convert his 1/48 Trumpeter MiG-23UB model into a 2 seater.  This project involved plenty of aftermarket items including the Neomega  conversion set....many hours of scratchbuilding then all the hours of work to pull this whole project together.  This model has a stunning finish and figures and crew ladders and a beautifully done display base.  Enjoy the photos....this one is a BEAUTY!!!

Mike Pattison has taken a  the 1/32 Revell Hurricane IIc Trop to a new level of enjoyment. Mike built this classic kit in 3 days and used some artistic license with the camo and markings and ended up with a sharp looking Hurricane.  It's amazing to build this gem in 3 days....way to go Mike......keep making the hobby fun....that is what it is all about.

Sodasorb has done the 1/48 Revell A-6E Intruder in style as a Gulf War USMC bird complete with a weapons load and just the perfect amount of weathering to hit the perfect mark for realism.  Sodasorb points out a few of the tricks to building this kit, which he built for his brother who is a Gulf War Vet.  What a great gift to give to his brother.....lucky brother.

Cenker Olut has done a first class job detailing his 1/48 Eduard Focke Wulf FW 190/A8 "weekend edition".  Cenker used a combination of Eduard Zoom sets and his own highly skilled scratchbuilding skills to detail his 190.  He then gave it a flawless paint job with the perfect amount of weathering.  I love the engine detail on this one and the camo is quite attractive.

Douglas Conrady joins us with a very special 1/48 Sword T-38A he made for a pilot friend.  Douglas carefully researched this project which shows in the finished model.  I do like the way the model is climbing but also is tilted to one side.  It's a beauty from every angle and I do like the way he pulled it all together with the model and custom base.  I'm sure his friend was quite impressed when he received this gem.

Kees Kuyper joins us from the Netherlands with another 'what-if' aircraft from the NESA NEtherlands Space Agency.  Kees is a rare and very creative mind and this is his  Lockheed Skyking with the rarely seen bypass turboprop engines.  His aircraft is wearing NESA colours as it would appear in Suriname (former part of the  Kingdom of the Netherlands),  Nicely done Kees.

Thomas Brückelt has done an exceptionally nice job building and finishing his  1/72 Airmodel Products Flettner FL 265 "Blauer Anton".  Thomas chose a what-if scheme for this little German chopper that honors the designer of this very early little chopper.  The design of this chopper is very interesting......it actually has 2 rotors....it's a wonder the blades don't hit when the engine is running.  Beautiful work Thomas.

Paul Coppin starts things off today with a rare bird.  This is his 1/48 Revell He-111-H22, which is the V-1 launching He-111.  Paul chose a very sharp looking camo scheme complete with black underside.  This is an excellent kit and in Paul's skilled hands it came out looking flawless.

Fausto Muto has been busy getting everything looking perfect on his well weathered 1/32 Hasegawa A6M5 Zero.  This Zero has areas of paint that are worn down to the metal.....which looks very realistic.  Beautiful work.

Monday,  Mar 16  2015
We've done some long hours of driving and made it to Portland, Oregon last night.  With a little luck we might be back home tonight.  Today I packed away my shorts and started wearing long pants....the heat of California is long behind us.

Paolo De Sanctis joins us from Italy with his excellent looking 1/72 Airfix Gloster Meteor F. Mk. III.  Paolo chose to finish his Meteor as an RAF machine stationed in Holland in the closing months of WW2.  Nicely done Paolo.

Gabriel Stern drops by today with a plane I really like the look of.  This is his  Modified Italeri 1/72 Cant Z.501.  Gabriel hunted down needed research material and then set to work adding scratchbuilt  details to this Italeri kit.  The finished model has a wonderfully delicate look to it.

Ed Ellickson is here with a very colorful 1/72 Sword P-80B.  Ed built this from the Sword F-80C kit and he explains mods needed to backdate the C to a B. I love the paint scheme he chose.  Beautifully executed model Ed, you got everything looking just right.

Ioannis Giavasis has done an outstanding job detailing and finishing his  1/48 Hobby Boss Mig-17 F Fresco.  Ioannis  added a Neomega cockpit set and Quickboost guns to add further detail, but the real beauty of this Egyptian MiG-17 is the painting and weathering job..

Lithuania Independence Day

Train bombings in Spain 2004

We got some much needed shopping done then hit the road and ended up in a lovely little California town called San Luis Obispo.  We decided to get off the big Interstate 5 and travel the longer more scenic coastal highway....it's been a beautiful drive.  We saw the Spongebob movie at the theater last night....I'm always baffled that there can be open fires at the bottom of the ocean....spoiler alert....it has a happy ending.  :-)  Today we push on to San Diego....I love San Diego.

Jinoo Koo starts today's update with this very detailed 1/48 Hasegawa P-40E Kittyhawk Mk. 1 diorama.  This is an RAAF Kittyhawk complete with mechanics around the plane sorting to repairs....in proper Aussie clothing.  The model had quite a few aftermarket detail items added to it before it was given desert weathering.  There is so much to see and enjoy in this diorama.

David C S Teo has done an exceptionally fine job on his 1/144 Revell Mahan Air 747-400 (EP-MNB).  There are no decals for Mahan Air, so David made his own custom made decals after much trial and error to get everything perfect.  The finished airliner is a beautiful sight.

Stephen A. Carr built his 1/48 Hobbycraft Bell YP-59 Airacomet as a quickie build, but you'd never know that by reading his article and the effort he put into this well built and beautifully weathered little jet.  I was fascinated reading Stephen's article especially how he painted the canopy.  He masked and painted the vertical and horizontal canopy frames separately......saving himself plenty of time and difficult masking.  Brilliant.

Huberlu has done an absolutely wonderful job on his 1/48 Eduard Spad XIII.  Everything about this little bi-plane looks perfect from the detailed and weathered model to the pilot figure to the diorama base.  WOW......I love it from every angle.

Tuesday,  Mar 10  2015
Our trusty ol' GPS was getting confused.  "She" would give us directions.....then recalculate when we made the turns she suggested.   We got to downtown San Fran during rush hour.....we were coming into town as folks were gridlocking their way out of town.  With the GPS getting more useless by the minute.....I dead reckoned using the setting sun and set course by traffic-free side streets south out of "The City".  Found a Chinese restaurant and learned the hard way Mongolian food is spicey.  Then continued on south stumbling around in the dark to San Jose for the night.

WW1 Events - this date in  1915

Jim Knight is here with one heck of a great looking 1/48 Monogram F-8C Crusader.  Jim used the Cobra Company conversion kit and the decals are from a Cutting Edge sheet for VF-84.  The finished model with a flame job on the sides of the intake plus the folded wings makes this Crusader really look exceptional.

Burt Gustafson has done a lovely job on his 1/72 Hasegawa E-2C Hawkeye.  Burt was very impressed with the Hasegawa kit and I do like the colorful markings he chose for his Hawkeye.

Graham Mansell has been rushing to get his 1/72 Hobbycraft Bell X-1 finished for a club group build.  Graham got her finished  hours before the club meeting and I'm proud to say he did win an award for his sharp looking X-1. Nicely done Graham.

Tim Cvetic has done an excellent job on his 1/48 ARII F6F-3 Hellcat.  Tim dressed up the cockpit with a resin cockpit and then he added scratchbuilt detailing to the wheel wells to get that area looking right.  Check out the amazing shading he did on the underside.

Monday,  Mar 9  2015
I'll be on the road the next 2 weeks driving 1700 miles to California to buy a rust free 1995 Honda Civic Del Sol as a first car for my 16 year old daughter.  I wasn't able to find a rust free Del Sol near my city.  We'll also be hitting malls and riding roller coasters etc along the way.  She's excited about her first car and getting down to California during spring break.

Ed Okun has done an outstanding job detailing and finishing his 1/32 Trumpeter MiG-21MF.  Ed chose to finish his MiG in Syrian Air Force markings and I must say I particularly like the camo scheme he chose.

Massimiliano Bianchi has spent many hours adding detail to his 1/32 Trumpeter MiG 17.  This is a big model so Massimiliano  used Eduard PE for cockpit, the gun and ammo box are scratch built and as well as some of the detail on the engine.  The model was then given a faded and chipped weathered paint job and Polish Air Force markings.  Amazing work.

Alejandro Núńez starts your Friday update with his good looking 1/48 Hasegawa Me-109 G6 "metal".  This particular 109 is finished with a bare metal finish and I must say I do like the look of it.

Alacran has done an amazing job adding scratchbuilt and aftermarket detail to his 1/72 Revell F-16 MLU M4.   The detailing is fantastic and Alacran's F-16 is finished with a flawless weathering job that makes this Chilean Air Force F-16  a jewel to see.  So much effort with such wonderful results.

Tomislav Kralj has added hundreds of scratchbuilt parts to fully and accurately detail his 1/72 Italeri Su-34 Fullback.  Tomislav rescribed the panel lines and used a variety of aftermarket items and decal sheets to get everything perfect.  His article explains the process in very helpful detail.  If you are building the Italeri Su-34, then this article will be a big help.  I love the photos of this Fullback.
