Panavia Tornado "Pride of Boelcke"

Hello everybody! I write from Italy and this is my first article on ARC.

Here are the pictures of my latest creation. I chose this German Tornado because I was surprised of its special colour livery.  This represents the 50th Anniversary of the 31 Bomber Squadron situated in Norvenich, near Koeln, Germany.

I accepted this challenge against myself in order to test my skills in modeling. I built the kit just out of the box. The assembly was not very simply: I encountered many problems with the jet intakes: they were bigger than the fuselage, so it took me a lot of sanding and putting work! I had some problem with the canopy: it did not fit perfectly to the cockpit. After spending much time in thinking how to solve the problem I surrendered. You will see some bad juncture....sorry, I could not do it best! The most difficult part of the job was the painting. First I had to look for the exact RLM colours. RLM colours usually don't match with FS colours, so I had to find by myself the ones that were most similar to the ones of this model. I used both Humbrol enamel paints and Tamiya/Gunze Acrylic paints. In second place, I used frisket in order to mask correctly the aircraft. Luckily, the kit included masking templates of the same scale of the model, so I could easily print them directly on the frisket sheet. I preferred not weathering and paneling this model because in reality this aircraft was repainted recently, so it could not be already dirt a the moment of its exhibition. The decals were ok, but a bit difficult to apply, because of the large size of same of them.

At the end, after more than two months of hard work I was satisfied with my creation. I hope you will enjoy some other photos....
