Trinidad and Tobago National Day

WW1 Events - Aug 31  1914
  • The Germans besiege and capture the Maubeuge Fortress.   August 24 – September 7
  • Battle of Lemberg. The Russians capture Lviv.   August 23 – September 11

Good job on today's update goes out to everyone in Malaysia.  I love these Malaysian updates.  I tried to get this update loaded sooner out of respect for your time zone.....but I got sidetracked moving my older daughter to her new University in a  different city.  She was very nervous.

   Happy Merdeka everyone!

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng gets this very special update started with his 1/72 Italeri Hawk 208.  Thomas combined the Italeri Hawk 100 kit with single seat resin conversion from NMA models and various decals to get this Malaysian beauty.  Very nicely done and I love the choice of markings.

Brian “MrB” Param has chosen an brilliant paint scheme for his 1/32 Hasegawa F-5E.  Brian dressed up the cockpit detail with a Verlinden cockpit set and then chose the aggressor camo scheme of a family friend and squadron commander aircraft.  This is one awesome looking Malaysian F-5.

Derek Ho has taken the weathering on his 1/48 AFV Club RF-5E Tigereye to a very high level of skill.  Derek used pre and post-shading and other techniques to achieve a flawless level of weathering this looks fantastic.  Enjoy his photos.  WOW!!!

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng is back with his second model for this special update.  This is his 1/72 Airfix Super Lynx which he built from the older Airfix Super Lynx kit.  Thomas modified the engine intakes and then built the rest of his helo OOB with decals sources from different companies.  It's good to see a Malaysian chopper on ARC....especially today.

Brian “MrB” Param has rebuilt his 1/32 Hasegawa TA-4 PTM into an inflight model.  Brian added pilots and other mods to make this Skyhawk more Malaysian specific.  Once he got all the details correct.....he used his masterful airbrushing skills to give this big Skyhawk a truly exceptional weathering job.  It doesn't get much better than this....excellent work Brian.

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng did a first class job on his natural metal 1/50 Academy F-5B.  Thomas replaced the cockpit and the job he did painting the cockpit looks very good indeed.  He then gave his natural metal F-5 just the perfect amount of weathering to achieve a level of realism.

Serge Dompierre gets things started in style today with his very fun vignette of his 1/48 Hobbycraft Piper Cub J-3.  Serge built his model to appear as an R/C model with a figure getting ready for a session of R/C flying.  Serge even added a dog and various R/C items to complete the scene.  I love this one!!!

Brian Param a.k.a Mr B dropped by the ARC Corporate office in Malaysia with his flawlessly built 1/48 Revell Monogram Panther.  Brian built his Panther to represent Lt Harry Brubaker’s Panther as seen in the Bridges at To Ko Ri.  It is always a special treat for me to see Brian's latest model on ARC.

Jacek Widziszowski has done the most amazing job painting his 1/48 Revell/Monogram Messerschmitt Bf-110 G4/R3.  Jacek picked the most complicated camo scheme for his radar equipped Bf-110....simply amazing work Jacek.

Kenji Miyazawa did an exceptional job improving the details on his 1/48 Revell MiG-25PD including added Eduard photo etch and scratchbuilt details.  Kenji reworked quite a few areas on his MiG-25 and then finished it with a flawless paint job and a perfect weathering job.  WOW!!!

Rodrigo AD has added a huge amount of detail to his 1/35 Dragon MD500E Gunship.  Rodrigo combined many aftermarket sets with his own excellent scratchbuilding to create his El Salvador Air Force chopper.  These big kits permit plenty of detail as you will see in  Rodrigo's photos.

Franck Oudin joins us today with his very attractive 1/48 Revell (Dragon/DML) Ju-88 C6.  Franck chose a great looking mid-war camo scheme and finished it off with full weathering including exhaust stains.

Yusof Bin Zakaria is here with his fully loaded 1/48 Revell F-15E.  Yusof shows the true mission for his Eagle with it's full weapons load, but what really catches the eye is the weathering and shading Yusof did to his Eagle.....his model looks better than the real jet.

Gabriel Stern has done the most amazing job on his 1/72 Formaplane-based scratchbuilt Stinson "A" prototype.  Gabriel did a massive amount of scratchbuilding on this very complicated project and I must say I enjoyed seeing it very much.  WOW!!!

Andy Stark has done a very nice job on his 1/48 Hasegawa Typhoon Mk. 1B.  Andy added Eduard seatbelts and a scratchbuilt gun site and then finished his Typhoon in the classic camo with the perfect amount of weathering to a beautifully realistic degree.

Nkululeko Jansson is here today with his great looking 1/48 Academy Mirage FIII done up in South African markings.  Nkululeko built his Mirage out of the box and combined kit decals with some decals from Leading Edge Models to get the correct markings.  I love the choice of camo he used on his SAAF Mirage FIII......very nice indeed.

Burkina Faso National Day

WW1 Events - August 4   1914 -
  • 09.00 (CET) 4 Aug 1914: Antoine Adolphe Fonck, aged 21, a lancer in the 2nd Lancers, becomes the first Belgian to fall in combat. He dies close to Battice as the Germans advance from the border towards Liège.
  • Germany invades Belgium to outflank the French army.
  • Britain protests the violation of Belgian neutrality, guaranteed by a treaty;
  • German Chancellor replies that the treaty is just a chiffon de papier (a scrap of paper).
  • The United Kingdom declares war on Germany.
  • The United States declares neutrality.

I have decided to begin marking the historical events of WW1 as they unfold over the next 4 years.  I have updated the ARC homepage with events that have unfolded in the time line since Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to Austria-Hungary's throne, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated on June 28 by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip while the couple were visiting Sarajevo, Bosnia.  By today...100 years ago...the British Empire has joined the declarations of war.  I like to think there was a quiet portion of all societies that had a bad feeling about the unfolding events.  I am left numb when I ponder the misery that befell the 20th century due to the actions of one student with a gun.  WW1 began the downfall of many European Empires.....and lead directly to WW2 and the downfall of the British Empire.....the continued rise of the USA....and the independence of many former European colonies....which in turn unfolded into many post war events.  The rise of the USSR could be directly connected to the cost of WW1 which lead to the Russian revolution.  There is no doubt bad events would have still happened.....but it is amazing to ponder the millions that have died since that one student killed 2 people.

Today I will only have WW1 models on ARC to remember the opening events of WW1 and no product articles out of respect for all those that were affected by this horrific conflict.

Zoran Verhovšek starts this special update with his stunning diorama.  This is his 1/48 Special Hobby Fokker B.II at a German airfield between missions.  It appears the guns are being removed for the night in the hand cart.  A very moving scene and beautifully done by Zoran.

Alain Carrette is here with his 1/48 Eduard Nieuport 11 in the markings of a Belgian ace.  Some markings were custom made and the whole diorama and model were beautifully done.  Belgium suffered horribly during WW1 and this diorama helps to acknowledge that suffering.

Diego M. Pavese is here with what I consider to be one of the best looking German aircraft from WW1.  This is his 1/48 Gavia Albatros D.1 with flawless woodgrain on the fuselage and expertly done rigging.  So beautifully done and so delicate looking.

Sören Bartusch  is here with a very special little 1/48 Eduard Sopwith 2F.1 Camel.  Sören tells the story of a raid from the British H.M.S. Furious against the airship hangars in Tondern in the summer of 1918.  Amazing work Sören.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler added some excellent aftermatrket detail sets to complete his stunning 1/48 Hasegawa F-18C Hornet.  This is VFA-87s 2014 CAG jet which is a great looking paint scheme.  This one is a beauty.

Ivan Pliopas has done a first class job on his 1/72 Italeri C-119G.  Ivan chose the very attractive white and baremetal paint scheme and finished his Boxcar in Brazilian ...which is nice to see.  This is a sweet looking model of this classic transport aircraft.

Peter Kozelj has done an outstanding job building and finishing his 1/48 Tamiya Me-262A-2aPeter dressed up the cockpit with a resin seat and then used the kit decals to finish it in a complicated camo scheme.  I love the look of Peter's Me-262.
