Happy New Year!!!

I'd like to wish everyone the very best in 2009.  Silly weeks begins tomorrow and I've decided to take the week off and give in to Dan's Mon-key constant pleading to let him run the site during Silly Week.  He's promised to be good.

Fernando I. Moreno Villa is here with a very special article.  First he tells about the whole story behind building his 1/72 Italeri Kfir C2 and then Fernando tells the story of visiting Venice from Mexico and meeting with a fellow ARC'ers in Venice.  Grab a warm drink and enjoy the story.

Han Chong joins us on the last day of 2008 with this fine looking 1/48 Academy F15E.  This F-15 was built out of the box and includes a full weapons load to complete the look.

Titus "Surefire" Zapanta is here with one of the most impressive bi-plane models I've seen.  This is his 1/8 Hasegawa RAF SE5a Museum Series complete with all the wooden beauty that the real aircraft had.  Amazing.

Artur Oslizlo has put huge effort into his 1/48 Hasegawa F-16D Block 52+.  This twin seat Polish F-16 is loaded with resin goodies and finished with a fantastic weathered paint job that is complimented with Twobobs decals.  Twobobs decals.  Twobobs decals.

Chip Jean is here with a beautifully done 1/48 Accurate Miniatures SB2U-3 Vindicator.  Chip had some quality issues with this kit as it was part of the early production run, but Chip persisted and finished it off with a stunning faded paint job.

Tuesday,   Dec 30  2008
Igor Petrovic is here with not one but two models.  These are his 1/48 L&M Resin PC-9A & PC-9AM done with with amazing skill.  Have a close look at the very last photo and you'll see one of these aircraft has a tie down rope for the prop tip and both have RBF tags as you'd see when these aircraft are parked on the ground.  Beautifully done.

Alan Purusram has gone to great efforts on his 1/48 Revell / Monogram B-58A Hustler.  Alan scratchbuilt the interior on his Hustler and used Aires resin exhausts along with other goodies and scratchbuilt work before finishing it off with a multi-shade bare metal finish.  Well done Alan.

Phil Mead has been busy getting things looking just right on his 1/48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon 1b Tropical.  Phil added Eduard and scratchbuilt details to the cockpit before finishing his Typhoon in the faded desert camo worn by this aircraft during WW2.

Arthur L. Caesar & Son is here with two 1/48 Revell A-10A Warthogs.  This is a Father Son project and I can't think os a better way to spend time with a son.  Way to go guys.....both Warthogs came out looking great!!

Angel Mesa did something very special here when building this 1/72 SH-3 Seaking Spanish Navy.  The decals from this Seaking were taken from a  few sheets as Spanish Seaking decals don't exist.  Now that is determination and the reward is an excellent looking Spanish Seaking.

Mel Silvestre is here with test shots of the 1/32 Trumpeter Fairey Swordfish.  Well done Mel!!!  My special thanks and New Year wishes go out to the members of IPMS Philippines Bert Anido

Baran Çakmak is one of those very talented modellers from Turkey and he's here today with his 1/72 PM Sukhoi SU 21 TM.  Baran did much extra work to his Su-21 including thinning flying surfaces and even sanding the canopy to make it thinner and does his canopy ever shine.  The extra work and scratchbuilding Baran did is impressive and a pleasure to see.

Paolo Yuen is here to give us a taste of the excellent results that are possible when building the 1/700 Trumpeter/Italeri CVN-76 USS Ronald Reagan.   Paolo kit bashed the Italeri and Trumpeter kit using the best of both kits to create this masterpiece.  After seeing this carrier, I suspect more people will be building  an aircraft carrier.

Christmas Day

I'd like to share with you my favourite Christmas song.  It's called Christmas in the Trenches and is written and sung by an American Folk singer John McCutcheon and it tells the story of the Christmas truce in 1914 when a young German left the German trenches to socialize with British troops.  Soon troops from both side were leaving their trenches to meet with soldiers from the opposing side.  This video contains actual photos of the British and German troops enjoying each others friendship during this magical Christmas of 1914.  Click here to hear the song and see the photos    Merry Christmas everyone.

  Serbian Air Force Day

To track Santa on Christmas Eve with your kids...go to this website http://www.noradsanta.org/  I've done this with my daughters when they were small and it was quite fun for them....and myself.  There are already some videos loaded and more get added all day long as Santa makes his way around the planet on his Christmas Eve run.

Alvis 3.1 is here with the aircraft from my favourite Christmas Eve story. This is "The Shepherd"......a story that is played on CBC radio each Christmas Eve. I've listened to it each year for the past 25 years. Alvis has included a link to the audio story and his models are the models featured in the story. This story is a MUST listen. Enjoy.

Here's a direct link to the 30 minute story "The Shepherd" read by the late Alan Maitland of CBC.

It is a holiday tradition here on ARC to speculate what vehicles Santa will use to deliver presents on Christmas Eve.  Alvis 3.1 is here today to present 3 of Santa's toy delivery vehicles.
Alvis 3.1 is here with his first aircraft from Santa's snowy hanger.  This is What Santa flew, 1934.  Yup.....a modified Gee Bee Racer......but read the whole article for the whole history about Santa's Gee Bee.

Alvis 3.1 is here with the second aircraft.  This is what Santa flew in 1967.  This aircraft sports a false canopy.......of sorts.....it all relates to Santa and the name Santa gave it is VERY funny.

Alvis 3.1 is here with one of the more sensible Santa aircraft........or so I would have thought.  This is Santa's 1/48 Polar Pogo, but read the story to find out the down side to using this aircraft.

Happy Chanukah!     Festival of Lights began Dec 21

We were without power for 8 hours last night and early this morning.  Between my wife rustling about during the night and the lack of heat it was a restless night.  It turns out the last outage was due to salt from sea spray on the power pole insulators and pole poles causing the whole pole to ground to earth.....on a number of power poles.  Today it was a big old tree across the powerlines and road.  With the roads as bad as they are here due to the total lack of snow removal and one or two tiny snowplows......I was up early driving my wife to work.  Came home to a cold house and went to bed and slept til noon.

On a positive note.......I did get out sledding with my kids yesterday.....sledding only happens every few years around here.

Rene de Koning gets things started today with photos from the recent Eagles Day 2008 held in Melbourne Australia.  Very enjoyable to see some of the models that were on display at this fine event.

Artur Oslizlo joins us today with his 1/48 Trumpeter MiG-3.  Artur jazzed up the detail with an Eduard zoom PE and Quickboost resin exhaust pipes only.  I really liked how the weathering and exhaust stains turned out on this one.

Jeff Vail is here with a blast from the past.  This is his 1/72 Aurora AH 56A Cheyenne modified and finished off in a what-if scheme including weapons.  It's good to see this helo built and finished in what-if operational markings.

Tyler White has finished off a stellar looking 1/48 Hasegawa F-14B.  Tyler did plenty of work to his Tomcat and added some Steel Beach intake covers, True Details resin seats, Eduard masks and photo etch for the cockpit and then finished it off with Figthertown Decals.

  Bhutan National Day

Our power has just come on after being out for 12 hours.  I have no idea what the cause was as there has been no new snow, ice or storms.  The house did get down to 60F (15C)....not exactly freezing....but not having power wasn't helping me catch up on my ARC work.

Gökhan Eren starts today's update with his very nicely done 1/72 Italeri Mirage 2000 D H.A.F.  Gökhan did find some fit issues with this kit, but it wasn't anything he couldn't deal with.

Negri Manuel is here with a special little 1/72 Hobbyboss Bf-109 G6 that he built for his friend.  The weathering on this 109 really does look excellent.

Serge Dompierre is here with one of his earlier builds.  This is his 1/48 Monogram T-6 Texan done up in a very convincing bare metal finish and finished off in American markings.  Seeing this humble little trainer makes me day dream of all the great pilots that started off in the modest little Harvard.

Colin Whitehouse joins us with his 1/48 Revell Eurofighter Typhoon.  Colin has some interesting things to say about this kit and as you see in his photos, this Typhoon from Revell really does build into a fine looking model.  Good to see it Colin and it's always good to see your models on ARC.
