1/24 Midwest Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack

The Muscongus Bay Lobster Smacks were built circa the1860's to 1900.  They were used mainly along the coast of Maine for catching and transporting lobsters.  These smacks were noted for their speed and could easily be manned by a crew of two.

I saw only one other sailing ship on this site, therefore I decided to add another one to keep it company.  Granted mine isn't as elaborate, it was lots of fun to build.  It definitely offered challenges different from those presented with plastic aircraft models.  The kit contains micro-cut balsa wood, basswood and mahogany wood parts; sail cloth, threads, blocks, and brass wires.  The build was carried out in an "on-and-off" fashion.  As a result, the model was on my workbench for well over a year.  Though, if you've never tried your hand at wooden ship modeling, I highly recommend it (Though, do start with baby steps.)  Other than the scratch built lobster trap, the boat was built out-of-the-box.

I hope you all enjoyed.
