This new decal sheet from Starfighter Decals includes markings for 4 different USN F4F-4 Wildcats from the Midway to Guadalcanal Campaigns. National Insignia for only 2 aircraft.

Special thanks goes to Mike Lampros and Mark Tutton.

The 4 aircraft include colorful pre-war paint schemes.

  • F4F-4 Wildcat flown by LtCdr Jimmy Thatch VF-3 Midway

  • F4F-4 Wildcat flown by Lt.(jg) William Leonard VF-11 Guadalcanal with 5 kill markings

  • F4F-4 Wildcat flown by Machinist D. Runyon: #13 (Tombstone on the tail) from VF-6 Guadalcanal Campaign Sept. 1942 with 8 kill markings

  • F4F-4 Wildcat flown by Machinist D. Runyon: #20 (Tombstone on the tail) from VF-6 Guadalcanal Campaign Aug 24 1942

Tombstone tail art is amusing....it is a white tombstone with the rising sun Japanese flay and numerous "red meat balls" under the flag.

The 2 pages of instructions are clear and include 1 color side profile of each aircraft  as well as underside of one wing to assist in decal placement.  The decals are beautifully printed on 1 decal sheet with prop blade tip decals.  I quite enjoyed the selection of markings including the tombstone tail art and the kill markings.

I would like to thank Starfighter Decals for providing me with this product sample.
