Another combo release from Hasegawa, this boxing
contains both their 1:72 Spitfire Mk1 and Messerschmitt 109E kits. You receive
two separately bagged sets of sprues, two sets of instructions and one sheet of
decals for both kits. The Bf109E also contains an additional white metal part
– a pilot’s seat. Box art is done in a large format ‘profile’ style and
features two excellent renders of the subject aircraft from the summer of 1940.

The Spitfire kit in this boxing is rather dated
and has raised panel lines and a little flash from what must be quite old molds.
So no reason to write it off but it’s not to today’s standards either. The
109 is a little cleaner and would seem to be from a later generation of kits
with engraved panels but not much else in the way of detail. So this boxing
would ideally make a good introductory set to new modelers but could also be
brought up to spec by talented modelers who like a bit of a challenge.
The decal sheet is standard Hasegawa. Decals for
the Spitfire are suitably business-like while the 109 half has a variety of
colourful squadron emblems and chevrons to complement the vivid paintjobs on the
German aircraft. All decals are cleanly printed and coloured and spot on
register.
