Zactomodels has released a series of Russian missiles in 1/32 scale to go with their other resin goodies for the 1/32 MiG-29 and the 1/32 Su-27.  This second missile set is the Vympel R-27R - AA-10 Alamo-A missile that was carried by MiG-21, MiG-29, Su-27 and Su-30.

This resin set includes 2 complete missiles.

The R-27R AA-10 Alamo-A is basically a semi-active radar homing missile with a range up to 80 km under optimal conditions.  Semi-active radar homing or SARH is possibly the most common type of guidance system carried by aircraft and the missile itself is a passive detector of a radar signal.  So the aircraft or ground unit will light up the enemy aircraft with a radar signal and the missile will look for that signal reflected off the target and home in on the target that way.  The missile will also listen rearward for the launch systems signal as a reference to keep from being confused by some radar jammers.  As the missile gets closer to it's target, the reflected signal will get stronger, so it is a pretty good system.

Resin casting is of a very high quality and all the detail is very well done with no air bubbles and is up to the very high standards of quality we have all come to appreciate from Zactomodels.  This is a kit in itself to build these 2 missiles and I'm amazed by the number of parts that are included in each missile.  I love how how Chris at Zactomodels can turn out resin castings of such high quality.  These are very richly detailed missiles.....VERY detail rich.  These will look stunning on your next big Russian jet.

The fins and the missile body are loaded with detail and the fins have plenty of tiny recessed rivets on them.

There is one page of instructions........which seems to cover all the important stuff to get these missiles assembled.  Painting instructions aren't included, so you'll have to figure that out yourself from the Internet, which shouldn't take much effort, but Zactomodels has included suggestions for decals for these missiles.

I love the new missiles that Zactomodels has come out with and now you have no reason for not having super detailed weapons hanging from your big Russian jet.  Well done Chris!!!

You can learn more about this line of Russian missiles by viewing the In-Progress thread on the ARC forums.

I would like to thank Chris at Zactomodels for providing me with this product sample.
