Review by Steve Bamford on June 1 2009

This new decal sheet from Hi-Decal Line features markings for 7 different Phantoms including 6 F-4E's and one RF-4C Phantom II.
  • F-4E 67-0392, 457th TFS, 301 TFW, USAF Reserve, Carswell AFB, Texas in 1989.  Named "War Lord", this jet is a double MiG Killer.  While serving with the 388TFW at Korat AB in Thailand, this F-4E was credited with the downing of two North Vietnamese MiG-19,s, the first on Sept 2 and the second on Oct 6 1972.  Paint scheme is Gunship Gray and Medium Gray.  Artwork is a Black Knight standing next to the Words "War Lord".
  • F-4E 71-1121 / 3-6658, 11th TFS, Imperial Iranian Air Force, TFB 1 Mehrabad in 1978.  On 26 September 1980, this jet was credited with the downing of an Iraqi MiG-23 only 4 kilometers outside Tehran during the Iran-Iraq War.  Paint scheme is Dark Brown/Sand/Dark Green.
  • F-4E 73-1547 / 3-6645, 61th TFW, Islamic Iranian Air Force, TFB 6 Bushehr in 1980.  This is one of the six Iranian Phantoms involved in destroying Iraqi missile and torpedo boats during "Operation Morvarid" on November 29 1980.  Paint scheme is Dark Brown/Sand/Dark Green.
  • F-4E 73-1544 / 3-6642, 32nd TFW, Islamic Iranian Air Force, TFB 3 Nojeh in 1985.  Paint scheme is Dark Brown/Sand/Dark Green.
  • RF-4E 67-0435, 131st TRS, 39th TRG, South Korean Air Force, Suwon AB in 2003.  Paint scheme is Gunship Gray and Medium Gray.
  • F-4E 76-0499, 152nd TFS, 17th TFW, South Korean Air Force, Daegun AB in 1980.  Paint scheme is Dark Green/Mid Green/Tan.
  • F-4E 68-0421, 156th TFS, 10th TFW, South Korean Air Force, Suwon AB in 1998.  Paint scheme is Dark Ghost Gray overall.  Artwork is a roaring black lions head.

The instructions are straight forward and also include 3 and usually 4 views of each aircraft on this decal sheet.  Plus there is text providing insight on weapons/fuel tank loadout postions etc.

The decals themselves are flawlessly printed and very clearly printed on the 1/48 sample I have before me and are contained on 1 decal sheet.  Stencils are not included.  Colours look solid and should cover very well, but the decals appear thin and of a very high quality.

There are black and white instruction sheet give you all the info you need to build each of these jets.  Hi-Decal Line is famous for the variety of countries featured on their decal sheets and this decal sheet no exception to this tradition.  Colours are listed as FS#'s, Model Master and Humbrol.
