The MiG-29 Fulcum is one of
the premier fighter jets from the Soviet era. Developed to meet the
Soviet Union's requirement for a dual-role, fighter and ground attack
aircraft, the MiG-29 entered service in 1983 and is marketed
worldwide. In 1995, the Royal Malaysian Air Force(TUDM) received
their first MiG-29's, designated MiG-29N for the single seat version and
MiG-29NUB for the trainer version. In March 1999, the MiG-29N's were
given phase two upgrades which included an improved fire-control radar
capable of tracking four targets simultaneously in the TWS
(track-while-scan) mode and engaging the two targets that pos the highest
threat. It is still a very highly respected fighter today and is
used by a variety of airforces around the world.
This new
1/72 decal sheet from Scale Nutz Productions focuses on four MiG-29's used
by the TUDM in Malaysia as well as an optional Su-30SKM Super Flanker to
be delivered to TUDM in 2006. The decals
themselves are beautiful quality and very clearly printed on the 1/72
sample I have before me (the scan of the decals below does not show the the sharpness
of these decals). Colours look solid (most of the decals are grey
on this sheet) and will cover very well and the decals appear wonderfully
thin. There are enough
stencils provided for 2 complete aircraft on this decal sheet. Clear film is minimal and tapers
down nicely to the edge of the decal.
The 5 aircraft featured on this sheet are with
3 different Squadrons (TUDM 17 Sqn, 19 Sqn, and the upcoming Su-30's with
11 Sqn.
