This sheet has been on a
popular seller in 1/48 scale....so Twobobs decided to release it in 1/32
scale. Two "hard-wing" F-4s from SEA are on this sheet
and there are enough markings provided to build both complete jets.
F-4E Chico the Gunfighter
- This aircraft is unique in that it was modified by crews in the field
to carry out the Fast FAC mission along the Ho Chi Mihn Trail.
Modified to carry the Mk. 20 Rockeye along with the SUU-23 Gun Pod, this
jet was one of the few (if not only) F-4 that could carry the Rockeye.
The Rockeye is typically a US Navy munition. References were
provided by noted aviation artist, Wade Meyers. Wade is a personal
friend of Col. Pewitt. Col. Pewitt was the pilot of Chico in the
Vietnam War.
F-4E A/C 551 - This was
the personal mount of Lt. Don Logan during the Vietnam War. Don
was a WSO on the F-4 and also has a ton of F-111 time. If the name
sounds familiar, it should. Lt. John Dallager and Lt. Logan was
shot down on 5 July 1972 and spent
close to a year as POWs at the Hanoi Hilton. This aircraft was not
the aircraft that Lt. Logan was shot down in but is the one that he was
assigned to.
There is also a MiG-21
kill associated with this A/C. It has not been substantiated
though so it is not an official kill as far as the USAF is
concerned. References were provided by Don Logan himself.
