1/72 Airfix Spitfire Mk. Ia

History: THE aircraft per antonomasia, the immortal Spitfire is much too famous for me to go into it's history, so I’ll not bore you with it's history.

THE MODEL: about this model there’s not a lot of say; I built it OOB some ten years ago and you can see that is not the best work I’ve done so far. The Spitfire is my favourite aircraft since the beginning of my “modelling career”, when I was  child. I’m literally in love with her and I’ve built many dozens of Spitfire kits in quite a number of versions during these 35 years!

But I’ must admit that the B. of B. Mk.I version is my favourite one because she’s the original and pure aircraft, with her streamlined lines and her clean shape, not to speak for her superlative flying performance.

Among the 1/72nd scale Mk. I kits, the Airfix offering is actually the best to me (in my humble opinion) because it has the best price vs. quality ratio, it’s cheap and near the perfection at the same time. With a little effort and added work this little and neat kit can become a real gem and it seems very much like the real thing. In my sample I used the superlative Carpenà decals (Spitfire Exotique 1emé partie) but I missed to wear it with pastel etc. The box on the background in the second picture is that of the old Polistil sample, an issue dated back in the far 1975.

Many greetings from Italy to all this site’s friends!
