1/48 Accurate Miniatures Yak-1

This is the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures Yak-1. I tried to built this kit OOTB but I had a great set of Moskit exhausts sitting around that I had to use and I made stencils for all the the markings since I did not like the kit decal options. The kit is painted overall with Tamiya acrylics using a custom mix for the cockpit and the underside. The slogan on the side was hand painted after first tracing the letters with white carbon paper. The airframe was first weathered with a light grey filter overall and then oil paints were used for oil leaks, streaks, mud splashes, etc. The antenna wire is made from 2 pound test monofilament nylon. This was my first attempt at creating paint chips by actually chipping off the top coat to expose the aluminum undercoat. I tried to keep this effect understated.

The fit and detail of this kit is wonderful. This model is part of a vignette but I did not show it in this form since the pilot model needs repainting. Regardless, I wish I had another of these kits in my stash because this aircraft is just begging for a winter whitewash camo!

Best regards from North Carolina!
