Not a lot can be
said about the subject matter or the kit employed that hasn't been said
before, so I'll keep this brief. The Spitfire is a superb plane, and the
Tamiya kit is a wonderful kit. Add to that the excellent Eduard PE set and
the outstanding Model Alliance decals for Robert Stanford Tuck's bird
while he was commander at Biggin Hill (about 1.5 miles from where I grew
up as the Spitfire flies), and it would take an idiot to mess this one up.
I tried my hardest not to do so.

The
dropped flaps are - it has to be said - a complete nightmare,
but well worth the effort involved when they're finally attached. The rest
of the kit pretty much fell together, as you would expect with Tamiya
quality. The only strange thing I did was rescue the pilot's seat back
cushion from the kit part to fit the Eduard replacement, which looked a
bit odd without it. Otherwise, utterly standard.
Paints were
all Tamiya acrylics (hand painted), with weathering done by a quick Smoke
wash afterwards, and the liberal use of a Tamiya 'weathering master' kit
for the exhaust staining. The human hair used for the aerial seems to have
sagged somewhat since installation. There are a few more progress shots in
the build article here.
That's about it,
really, apart from thanking Steve for running ARC, and thanking you for reading
this far.
