1/72  Special Hobby DH103 Hornet F Mk 1

While delving around in boxes in the shed of our new house (we have moved yet again – but this time just round the corner) I came across a part finished Special Hobby Hornet F1. I had spent a bit of time trying to get this disaster out of my memory bank. Anything that could go wrong did – I lost parts, made a hash of joining the wings to the fuselage and then to cap it all off the paint job (you know the one – silver with all those pretty red markings) was awful. However something stopped me from throwing the darn thing away, and a week or so ago when I found it I wondered whether it could be rescued. I still had the rest of the other markings, and having read in the ARC forums that oven cleaner was pretty good for getting rid of old paint I rolled up my sleeves and here is the result barely two weeks later. It is in the markings of 65 Squadron RAF, based at Linton-on-Ouse in 1946. This time I used Tamiya acrylics for the paint job, and some watercolours to dirty her up. Frankly I was surprised how well she scrubbed up, as long as you don’t look too closely J.
