Amazingly, in the snow-covered, barren wilderness of the Scottish highlands modellers can find a sheltered nook or cranny to stick bits of plastic together!  In fact there is a thriving Kinloss & Forres Model Club (KFMC) with some 30 members meeting once a week. The Elgin Model Show is an annual event held in the Town Hall.  It includes, scale plastic models, aeromodelling, wargaming railway modelling and die cast models.

KFMC have provided displays of scale modelling at the Elgin Model Show for several years, but this is the first year that a modelling competition has been held.  In fact, there were two competitions, both organised by the club.  The first was an Open Competition and, keeping it simple for the first effort, comprised two classes – Senior and Junior.  The local model shop, Junner’s (Toymaster) of Elgin sponsored the competition and, in conjunction with Revell, provided certificates and prizes.  The competition was well supported by club members and local modellers in both classes and the results were as follows:

Senior – 1st – Nick Robertshaw, Kinloss, Italeri 1/35 Landing craft & Dragon

                        Sherman Firefly.

2nd – Tom Grier, Forres, Revell 1/32 Tornado ECR.

3rd – Steve Cockburn, Inverness, Tamiya 1/35 Panther.

Junior – 1st – Craig Poppleton, Aberlour, 1/35 M48A3 Patton.

               2nd – Heather Taylor-Stanley, Forres, Airfix 1/32 P-51D Mustang.

3rd – Sara Cockburn, Inverness, Sleepy Hollow Headless Horseman.

In addition to the Open Competition the KFMC also held a competition for club modellers only.  This was the John Langton Shield and was inaugurated this year in memory of club member John Langton who was sadly killed with the rest of his crew in the recent Nimrod crash in Afghanistan.  John made models straight from the box, so the rules were simple, build your entry just like John would have – no extras!

This competition was well supported by the club and approximately 60 models were entered into both competitions.  The winner of the John Langton Shield was Al Harris of Kinloss with a superb Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter.
