This is my model of
a Bac Strikemaster mk.82 from the Omani air force. I used the old Airfix
kit and did a bit of modification to the old mold. For the cockpit I
found a resin kit from Obscureco, that is made for the Jet Provost mk.4. the
cockpit is almost the same, so with a little sanding and filing I got it
right. The canopy is a vac form from Aeroclub. The kit have fine raised panel
lines on the fuselage, but the wings have some really heavy raised panel lines, I
sanded them off and rescribed the wings. Then I added all the antennas and
was ready for the paint job. References on aircraft from the Omani air force is
hard to find, so I did not have the right color codes for this one. I used
pictures to try to get the color right, even though I know this is not very
accurate. The decals from the kit had yellowed, so I cut them very close so
the yellowing did not show. A wash of black and brown went over the kit and some
drybrushing on the raised panel lines, before it had a coat of satin varnish. This
is the first model I have made in ten years, so I am quite
satisfied with the result.
If you have any
material on Omani planes such as the Bac Strikemaster, Shorts Skyvan, Percival
Provost, Britten-Norman Defender and De Havilland Beaver, please write me.
