Here is a Hasegawa
1:200 Boeing 777-300 finished in a hypothetical new colour scheme for QANTAS. To
cut a very long and arduous story short, I built this model four years ago for a
client who claimed he worked for QANTAS. At the time I believed I was then
contracted to QANTAS to devise a new overall colour scheme, plus a series of
special themed paint schemes (This followed on from my QANTAS 767 "The Boy
from Oz" which at the time was residing at QANTAS' Sydney base. Alas, the
guy was totally bogus! All was not lost though, as one of QANTAS investigators
took this model down to Sydney for further review.

As can be seen, the new colour
scheme represented a colourful departure from the otherwise plain white fuselage
of QANTAS' existing scheme. I chose a rich metallic Burgundy red for the main
colour, highlighted in Gold trim. The lower fuselage was also finished in gold,
with several accent stripes. The main stripe sweeps up the leading edge of the
tail as per the current scheme. These colours were also reflected on the engine
nacelles.
I chose also to split the QANTAS
fleet up into operational divisions, which could be readily identified at the
airport or in the sky as to their use. All were to be dark, rich metallic
colours. As here, International aircraft were to be a combination of
Burgundy/Gold. For Domestic operations a combination of Dark Blue/Gold was to be
used (reflecting back on TAA, which QANTAS had bought out to begin their
domestic services), and for Regional operations, a Dark Green/Gold combination .
(This reflecting on the country/bush operations)
Sadly, QANTAS felt that the
scheme was too much like DHL's, but hey, at least they did consider it!
