Temporary
white winter camouflage application provides great opportunities and challenges
for air brushing. Here, I present two Ju87Ds. The first one is the Ju 87D-5 from the
old Monogram kit. The second is Hasegawa's Ju 87D-3. The Hasegawa kit was
basically built out of the box with some cockpit enhancements. I utilized spare
parts like cockpit panels and exhaust pipes from the Hasegawa kit to improve
the basic look of the Monogram kit. In particular, I changed the ailerons/flaps
attachment points on both kits. These areas are badly designed and you would
need to separate the flying surfaces from the wings and re-attach them with
scratch made actuators. It is a difficult task if you intend to avoid
cutting yourself in the process.

After the
application of the basic RLM 70/71 camouflage using enamel paints, I painted the
upper surfaces with a white oil paint that was highly diluted. In such
a way, it is possible to control the degree of erosion of the white paint
without destroying the base layer.
In the end, I used a paint brush
to apply camouflage spots and paint smears like it was with the authentic
aircraft.
