This is my
Monogram F9F-5 Panther. I finished this model way back in 1990
when it was first released. The kit is one of
the best engineered Monogram kits I've built
and is nicely detailed. It was built straight out
of the box using the kit decals, which were okay.
The nose is supposed to have a light blue spiral decal around
it, but it was
somewhat fragile and wound up breaking up as I was trying to
apply it. Also, the decal for the aircraft number on the forward
port fuselage didn't quite settle down
the way it was supposed to, as you can see from the above
picture.

The
model was done prior to me venturing into the world of weathering
aircraft, so it's as clean as it can
be. I finished it in Model Master Blue
Angel Blue, as opposed to Gloss Sea Blue, which I thought at the time matched
the box art better. So, it may not be historically dead-on, but
it's pretty close and is an attractive color. If you don't have a Korean
War bird in your collection and are looking to do one, I highly recommend this kit.
