120mm Light Horseman

West Australian 10th Light Horse Regiment from Gallipoli

  ANZAC day 2005

One of the units that bore the brunt of the fighting at Gallipoli was 10th Light Horse Regiment. This West Australian unit fought dismounted during the campaign. The 10th took extremely heavy casualties along with the rest of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade during the assault on the Turkish Positions at The 'Nek". Prior to this assault another ANZAC Brigade failed to take Chunuk Bair from where part of the attack on the Nek was to be launched from. A further problem was that the artillery bararge was stopped too early - seven minutes before H hour. A request to cancel the attack was refused. The 3rd Light Horse Brigade advanced against the now alerted Turkish positions which were in places only 18 metres from the start line.  This action could be considered Australia's equivalent of the Charge of the Light Brigade.

The resin figure was sculpted and molded by Phil Walden of Masters in Minature and required minimal cleaning up prior to assembly. It was painted using Humbrol enamels and Jo Sonjas artist gouache.
