The Avon Sabre was the first jet interceptor to serve with the Royal Malaysian Air Force. It was a gift given by the Royal Australian Air Force. The Sabres flew with No 11 Squadron based in Butterworth Malaysia . The Sabres were replaced by the Northrop F-5E.

The Kit
This is the 1/72 offering by Academy and with the Red Roo conversion to build the Avon variant. Construction was very challenging as the fit with the Academy wings and the Academy fuselage did not line up well. The nose intake was also another challenging part of this project. Overall not an easy build and it required me to put in countless hours sanding, test fitting and filling.

The decals supplied by Red Roo were in perfect register and very easy to use. Red Roo was kind enough to supply additional tail identification numbers for one to choose their particular choice to represent plus full stencils. I finished the aircraft in the Olive Drab and Egg Blue underside. A combination of Model master (Olive drab), and Gunze colours were used. The Egg Blue was a mixture of Blue grey and White. It was weathered with water color washes. Some paint chipping and dry brushing were applied here and there to further show the aircraft as used.
