TA-7C Corsair Hellenic Air Force 156767

Inspired by some great TA-7C Corsairs in the gallery, here is my interpretation and first ambitious attempt at weathering the TA-7C Corsair serial No 156767. Depicted here showing early signs of paint degradation and the normal in-service wear and tear of which we have become accustomed to seeing these last surviving trainers of the Hellenic Air Force.

Here the kit cockpit was replaced by a very difficult to find Wolfpack cockpit and was supplied by
plastic-hobby.com at a very reasonable price, as usual with resin detail sets a lot of work here sanding and shaping to get it to fit.

I was a bit nervous painting panel lines on a first attempt of what was becoming a rather expensive model what with the aftermarket add-ons, so with modest shading here and referencing photos of the real aircraft was called for, panel lines I feel were best done with a paintbrush rather than spraying as this I felt would give them a more realistic appearance in this case.

The standard wheel bays were replaced with an Aires A-7 Corsair set, the resin door bay 'C' shaped cranks were replaced with the kit ones as these were better detailed as the Aires ones were very poorly moulded, the downside to this was that they did not align correctly with the location on the door bays.

A refreshing change was the opportunity to paint a model in "SEA" camo for which I used Mr Hobby Aqueous acrylic paints FS 34102, FS 34079, FS 30219 and FS 36622 with well diluted Vallejo Model wash dark grey. Decal sets are from Xtradecal item No X48082.

Happy modelling
.
