I bought the Hasegawa 767 with the “Lauda Air” markings awhile back, mainly for the decals. (I am a huge racing fan and Lauda Air was founded by 3-time Formula1 champion Niki Lauda.) Decal-less, it sat half-finished in my closet for a number of years before I dragged it out to finish it off.

I wasn’t keen on buying new decals so I decided on a “what-if” subject. The kit went together easily enough, just needing filler in the wing roots. I added a few avionic blisters to the fuselage. The 2 on the top are from the 1/48th Hornet from Testors. The larger one on the bottom was made from an old drop-tank. I then filled in the windows and sanded down the raised panel line detail. I replaced the aft part of the engines with the screw-on tips from the popular “Gel-pens” the kids like to use. I gave it 2 coats of light grey out of a spray can from Testors. This paint was SUPER glossy for some reason; I needed 3 coats of Dullcoat to get it looking normal. As for decals, the kit supplied windows and door frames were used. The “US Air Force” title on the fuselage came from Italeri and the remainder of the markings came from Leading Edge. All responded well to setting solutions, aside from the Italeri ones, which silvered up nicely, even after the aforementioned layers of Dullcoat.

Unfortunately, I lost the left main landing gear. Being too far ahead in painting to be bothered filling in the wheel wells, I order a replacement set which, at time of writing as yet to arrive. I knew there was something missing!
