1/48 Italeri Arado Ar 196A

Gallery Article by Thomas Meyer on June 28 2010

This is the new Arado 196 floatplane form Italeri. This plane is one of the reconnaissance planes of the battleship "Bismarck".  I prefer floatplanes to be in one of their "natural"elements, so I created a small diorama with the hull of the "Bismark in the background. The plane is taxiing to be picked up, the observer climbing forward, preparing the hoisting gear.

The molding of the kit is quite nice, except unfortunately the floater struts, which are slightly misaligned.  Cockpit and canopy appear somehow oversized, but I have no sources to check this.  The build is OOB, with seatbelts and crew added from the spares box.  The sea is acrylic gel on aluminium foil and styrofoam.

This is my first submission, so the photos may not be perfect.
