1/72 Italeri EB-66 E-DL Destroyer

I built this model for the Pro Modeller group that I belong to for a South East Asia Campaign group build.  I was very late in getting it submitted because.. well... I got carried away and also side tracked on other projects (see my F-107A build for my dad).  I did quite a bit of scratch building on this kit improving the cockpit with Mike Grant instruments, scratch building the crew tunnel and hatch, correcting the jet intakes with tubing and turned spikes.  The only after market was a refueling probe that I added to the brass tube I used to replace the kit refueling probe.  The base is made from building foam with picture matting applied to the surface to represent the tarmac.  I added a power cart like I had seen in one of my reference photos.  It was a fun and sometimes challenging project of a somewhat obscure subject.

There were a lot of firsts for me on this one including acrylics throughout (except for the Alclad II on the engine and wheels).  Also this was my first serious shot at free handing camouflage.  I also made my own vacuform canopy to replace the kit piece.  There was also considerable rescribing.  Paint used was LifeColors and I used Pro Modellers wash.

Enjoy the photos.
