1/72 Revell Westland Sea King HU.5

Gallery Article by Angelo M Picardo on Apr 2 2010

This model is built from the Revell Sea King Mk.41. I added an etch set from Eduard and I also added a lot of detail using plastic card; stretched sprue; various diameters of wire; and items made from Milliput.

The model is of a Royal Navy HU.5  of 771 Naval Air Squadron based at Culdrose on Air Sea Rescue duties. The decal are from Model Alliance, (sheet no MA-72103). I painted the model with Humbrol enamels, inside and out. The model was weathered using Tamiya Smoke to darken the panel lines and Mig pigments to create the exhaust stains. All references are from various Internet sites.

The engine and transmission areas are scratch built with aluminium tube, acrylic rod, wire and plastic card.

Once the hatches were cut away they were thinned down and then detailed with card foil and stretched sprue.

The rotor tie downs are made from foil and nylon fishing line.

I made the base from a piece of ABS plastic. The two aircrew figures are from the Aviation Workshop set SS-7202, which is of modern Royal Navy helicopter crew.
