1/24 Airfix Spitfire Mk I

Gallery Article by Arnold Cremers on Feb 10 2010

This is the Airfix Spitfire mk I. The markings are for a Spit from 19 Sqn in September 1940.  It's made for a groupbuild (SIG RAF,AAF and IPMS the Netherlands) about the airplanes of the Battle of Britain. The model is intended to be for our Show (Euro scale ModelIing 2010) at the 30th of October in Nieuwegein. The Spitfire will be companied by the Airfix 1/24 Stuka that I am building now.

I used the resin seat from Warbird Productions. This is a seat that was for the Mk V. It is not entirely correct but it looks better than the kit seat.  I also used the seat harnesses from MDC. The rest of the details were self made. The Decals are not the best I have seen.  The stenciling was OK.  For the roundels and squadron codes did I use a Maskset from Montex (set K24022).

The only real flaw in the kit is that there is no wheelbay details.  I made them myself from some plastic sheets. The whole kit was sanded so the rivets aren't standing out anymore. After Painting they looked rather good.

Painting was done with Tamiya and Gunze paint.
